Solvita Kostjukova (ALINA, CEO) and Jūlija Karasa (University of Latvia Phd researcher) visits 8th Mid-European, Clay Conference with “Enrichment and organophilisation of the smectite saturated clays” poster presentation.
Poster summary: Smectites are used in wide range of applications, because of their high cation exchange capacity, swelling capacity, high surface areas, and consequential strong adsorption and absorption capacities [1]. To enrich Triassic clay samples from Baltic region saturating smectite, a certain fractionation is required for enrichment as well as to remove such matrix minerals as feldspar, carbonates and quartz. As known previously mentioned inorganic impurities decrease the sorption properties and quality of clay materials.
